Siêu phẩm Assassin’s Creed Valhalla sẽ ra mắt trong năm nay trên các hệ máy console hiện tại và thế hệ tiếp theo, bao gồm Xbox Series X và PS5, cũng như PC. Game sẽ được phát hành trên PC thông qua dịch vụ Uplay của Ubisoft giống như trước đây, đồng thời sẽ là lần đầu tiên dòng game này đặt chân lên Epic Games Store dưới dạng tùy chọn độc quyền của bên thứ 3–thay vì Steam như mọi năm.

Đây chắc chắn là một tin vui cho nhà phát hành Epic Games với nền tảng phân phối trực tuyến của họ, nơi đã chứng kiến ngày càng nhiều các tựa game của bên thứ ba ra mắt dưới dạng độc quyền trong năm ngoái.

Từng bước thay thế Steam

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla sẽ trở thành phần game mới chính thức đầu tiên bỏ qua nền tảng Steam trong sê-ri Assassin’s Creed. Đây cũng là tựa game đầu tiên trong loạt game AC ra mắt cho các nền tảng thế hệ tiếp theo. Tuy nhiên các phiên bản trước đây từ Assassin’s Creed Odyssey trở về vẫn có mặt trên store của Steam.

Phiên bản Gold Edition có trên Epic Store.

Ubisoft đang dần rời bỏ Steam vì khác biệt trong ý tưởng về mô hình kinh doanh. Phó chủ tịch Chris Early nói trong một cuộc phỏng vấn với New York Times rằng mô hình kinh doanh của Steam là “không thực tế”, game danh bai . Ông nói thêm, “Nó không phản ánh cách phân phối game của thế giới hiện nay.”

Steam thường giữ 30% doanh số trò chơi, 70% dành cho nhà phát triển/nhà phát hành. Ngược lại, Epic Games Store cung cấp nhiều hơn cho những người làm game; trên Epic Games Store, 88% doanh thu sẽ đến tay các nhà phát triển. Rõ ràng hợp tác với Epic Games hiện nay đem lại nhiều lợi ích cho các nhà làm game lẫn NPH hơn ở thơi điểm hiện tại.
